Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for Climate-Resilience
Convener: Rosa Sanchez-Lucas | Co-conveners: Zhenxing Zhang, Elias Getahun, Sha Luo, Wuhuan Zhang

Urban areas face mounting pressures from climate change, particularly the urban heat island (UHI) effect, flooding, and biodiversity loss. Conventional approaches have been long employed to address these impacts, but nature-based solutions (NbS) provide a transformative pathway. This session highlights NbS with the focus on the soil-water-plant nexus for addressing climate impact. Advances in remoting sensing, IoT-enabled monitoring, ecosystem and hydrologic modelling allow for integrated approaches that connect micro-scale processes such as soil moiture and plant transpiration with city-scale palling such as urban greening. This session intends to bring together researchers, practitioners, planners, and policymakers to foster dialogue on overcoming barriers to NbS adoption, from data gaps to limited policy integration and innovation. Contributions from monitoring, modelling, planning, and policy formation with respect to the soil-water-plant nexus are sought.
