Fossil fuels used in energy systems are a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and resulting climate change. The burning of fossil fuels also harms local environment with disproportionate health impacts on vulnerable communities. However, the fossil fuel extraction, transport and combustion industries are also central to the local economies where these resources are concentrated. This session will focus on energy transitions in such regions and how different technological and policy solutions proposed by climate-economy integrated assessment models weigh on the short-to-long term welfare outcomes in these regions. We invite articles with different methodological approaches to understand the local welfare impacts of global climate modelling outcomes in such regions.
