Active volcanoes at subaerial rifts display diverse eruptive behaviours over a broad temporal timeframe, ranging from sporadic low-intensity eruptions to paroxysmal events. This session explores what controls the eruption style and syn-eruptive dynamics, from magmatic storage to shallow conduit processes.
The physical characteristics of the eruptive products have been used to reconstruct shallow conduit processes, while chemistry and petrology represent powerful tools to investigate the influence of source dynamics on eruptive style. Despite overlapping research goals, these disciplines are rarely integrated.
In this session, we welcome contributions that explore eruptive dynamics within subaerial rift settings, spanning from individual eruptive events to long-term volcanic processes. We invite multidisciplinary studies that combine physical volcanology, geochemistry, or petrology tools to apply for this session. However, we also welcome any discipline relevant to the session’s theme. We encourage contributions from ECRs and will provide a safe space for everyone to present their research on the session’s theme.
